I like Howard Hawks’ films…Bringing Up Baby, His Girl Friday, Red River, and Rio Bravo are incredible pieces of entertainment. As I was watching Australia, the current Baz Luhrmann movie with Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman, I kept thinking…man, Baz must really like Hawks’ movies, too.

As evidenced by the films above, the mismatched couple who fight and fight until they realize they’re perfect for each other (scrutinize Mighty Ado About Nothing, Taming of the Shrew, and Moonlighting as other examples of the acquire) and the group of underestimated misfits who near together to fight infamous are two enormous elements dilapidated again and again by Hawks. Throw in a bit of John Ford’s The Searchers and its hard peep at racism leading to inhuman deeds and mix well and you have…Australia.

The pickle unusual audiences may have with Luhrmann’s unique movie is it’s very, very earnest. This is straight ahead legend storytelling with its heart on its sleeve and hat and boots with never a wink to the crowd in the theater to say “ain’t these people quaint”. You either recall in or you don’t. If you do, like I did, you’re in for a hell of a run.

This, I feel, is the flip-side to The Sad Knight. Helpful and improper are trapped in something akin to a battle and an embrace in Nolan’s Gotham City. You root for Batman, but he does stuff that is on the tainted side of freedom and civil rights. The Joker is pure crazy, but he’s the most mesmerizing character in the film. In Australia, there are fine guys and dreadful guys and you are either really estimable or twirl your mustache imperfect. The main villain actually may be a bit too two-dimensional in that aspect, but it didn’t wound my overall enjoyment.

Why? Well, sage melodrama is hard to pull off…I’m talking about the dependable stuff here. The novel BBC production of Bleak House is a ample example. There are very suited and very, very unpleasant people in that narrative, but the acting is so fabulous you rarely if ever secure yourself rolling your eyes (like whenever I’ve watched Smallville…see: abominable memoir melodrama) . Kidman and Jackman sell their characters…the displaced Englishwoman and the rough-hewn “Drover”. They are thrown together objective to, initially it seems, thwart a improper cattle baron from monopolizing the beef industry in the country. But the other tremendous memoir, the main one in fact, centers around Australia’s “lost generation”. These were Aboriginal children who were fathered by white men who didn’t claim them. They were taken by the government, the mothers had no rights, and handed over to the church to be taught to “act white” and then work in the servant class. Nullah, played by the fabulous child actor Brandon Walters, is one of these “creamies” who has been hidden on the ranch now owned by Lady Sarah Ashley (Kidman) . Lady Ashley discovers what is going on, is timorous by the law, and works to retain him hidden as well. Why the Drover cares so noteworthy about Nullah becomes definite later in the film (no, it’s not what you believe…that would be too easy) and Jackman’s experience with stage and musical work does him proud here. He can do earnest better than almost any actor alive when he needs to and his later expend of the f-word (the only curse I can remember from the entire film) hits so hard, in fair the apt emotional moment, that it kills. Russell Crowe was originally cast as the Drover but backed out. If Crowe had done the film, and I have liked him in other things…the Napoleon-era British navy film that I can’t remember the name of honest now, it would not have worked. Crowe never loses that bit of edge and the Drover, at one point, really has to fully rupture down and become completely vulnerable. Jackman shines at that point.

Anyway…a warning, the movie is long 2 hours and 40something minutes, but I didn’t realize that until I had left the theater. I saw it alone…I was out of town at a pediatrics meeting…and that’s a superb thing. I didn’t have to camouflage from Holly the few times the movie hit me a bit too hard and do that cough-throat clearing thing we dudes do to camouflage up a stray run.

I was looking forward to seeing this movie when it was release gradual last year given all the hype, and was not dissappointed!

Director, Baz Luhman, has served up a slab of nostalgia ala Australian style with all those ravishing elements we adore from films of the 40’s and 50’s, breathtaking, sweeping landscapes, attractive costumes and two pretty actors in Kidman and Jackman who come by the essence of the film. It nostalgia in every sense of the word, in every frame. The acting style reminds us of Bogart, Grant, Bacall and Dunne. The sage is record in every draw and objective shapely. I loved the salute to “The Wizard of Oz”a really nice touch!

Of course we all know how it’s going to extinguish. Watching Australia was like eating a box of Quality Street chocolates. Determined I know what I’m getting, but I aloof savor it.

For those of you who want to consume a few hours (and I mean a few; it’s almost 3 hours) being completely entertained then thisis the movie for you. I only wished they had inserted an interval on it’s theatrical release and made the whole event at the movies a exact nostalgic experience.

I can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t like this movie, unless you fair aren’t up for a feel great record. I want to spy more movies being made like this!!!! Well done to all!!!

This movie was definitely one to note off the Blu-Ray format, but some corporate genius decided not to pay MS royalties for the exercise of VC-1, and they went with MPEG2 again on PH. Unless you have the sharpness dialed down on your status, or a 720p point to blocking can be seen on this title sparkling easily. If you’re not sensitive to it then you’re lucky. It comes through looking almost like a second layer of grain, but not the very splendid grain of sterling film we’re old to. I know some films are intentionally grainy, but rather than error diffusion (like true grain) this movie exhibits patterned grain. It is an artifact of MPEG2 block in motion.

Titles released on Blu-Ray in VC1 encoding have proven how remarkable better they can witness. Why won’t they maximize the potential of the format already?

I am a Pearl Harbor historian and I bought a copy of this tremendous documentary on DVD. It is 100% true and has footage never before seen. The “Survivors” that were interviewed gave first-rate recounts of what it was like to be there. Never before have I seen extra footage of the bombing of the Arizona from a Japanese plane. Scott Freund and Tim Csabyani have done an satisfactory job. The quality and quantity of this DVD is something I would have expected from A & E or the History Channel.

A few years benefit, Ricky Gervais created “The Office,” a Dilberty satire on office work. Now, he’s created “Extras,” a wickedly comical satire on showbiz and acting, both seasons of which are contained here. And the fact that prominent actors appear in it — as warped versions of themselves — is fair the icing on the comedy cake.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Extras – The Complete Series! Click Here

Andy Millman (Gervais) and Maggie Jacobs (Ashley Jenson) are film extras — Andy is embittered by his lack of success and his inept agent (Stephen Merchant, Gervais’ work partner), while well-meaning Maggie merely pursues a series of crew members on the films they work in.

The first episode features the two working in a biopic directed by a brusque Ben Stiller (“Would you terminate going on about your f**king dull wife? “), and Andy gets himself kicked off the place. Their blunders continue with other stars: Kate Winslet in a nun costume, who teaches Maggie how to talk dirty to her modern boyfriend (“I’d admire it if you stuck your Willy Wonka in between my Oompa-Loompas!”) ; Samuel L. Jackson, and Patrick Stewart, who is writing a movie about psychkinesis and naked women.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Extras – The Complete Series! Click Here

And in the second season, Andy gets his Mammoth Crash — BBC2 is producing his sitcom “When the Whistle Blows,” but they dreary it down until it’s current but critically lambasted. Meanwhile, he and Maggie tangle with a bunch of recent celebs — the arrogant woman-chasing Daniel Radcliffe and Orlando Bloom, self-promoting Chris Martin, a hostile David Bowie, and Andy even stars in a play of Ian McKellen’s about elated like (great to his discomfort) .

Finally, the Christmas special takes us forward — Andy has fame and fortune from his sitcom, and Maggie is detached struggling at the lowest rungs. When Andy blows up and destroys his hold fame, he is forced to confront the fact that he cannot be both an “artiste” and rich’n'famous…. and also who his accurate friends will always be.

It’s a bit depressing compared to the past two seasons, especially when Andy has turned into a gargantuan tedious sitcom diva. But it is droll in an understated contrivance, and Gervais’ televised monologue is an absolute, heartbreaking gem.

Part of the genius of “Extras” is that it isn’t remarkable like any other showbiz parodies — the lead characters are on the lowest rung of acting, and the gigantic egos are genuine stars making fun of themselves. Sometimes they play really tainted versions of themselves, such as Winslet saying that she’s only making a Holocaust film so she can FINALLY nab an Oscar.

The other half of the funny genius is Gervais’ direction, with most of the jokes based on socially awkward situations. It’s all about cringing and giggling at once, such as when Andy’s pals gawk him pantsless in Ian McKellen’s dressing room. Those hideously embarrassing situations — usually with some hilarious dialogue captivating the star guests (Bowie’s “cramped plump man/nobody’s laughing” song is a gutsplitter) are what it’s all about.

Gervais underplays a sort of befuddled, cynical extra, but you can really connect with his struggles, even when he gets his gain sitcom. No matter what, Andy can always be depended on to dilemma foot in mouth, and occasionally to attack Warwick Davis. And Jensen is clumsily charming as Maggie, who tries to be nice to everyone but says all the rank things at the outrageous time, when she’s not being pursued by Orlando Bloom or offending Samuel Jackson.

From launch to conclude, “Extras” is an uproariously laughable, barbed looks at the peculiar world of showbiz, with the self-parodying actors as the final perfect touch.

Hello, from HBO! We’ve picked up on the comments here about the EXTRAS gift box residence and not being able to salvage Ricky Gervais’ EXTRAS: THE EXTRA SPECIAL SERIES FINALE by itself and we want to apologize for not getting the word out about the finale quicker.

The series finale WILL be available as a stand-alone item as of February 26 (the official announcement went out earlier this week) .

The movie starts with introducing us to a lovable cop who enjoys beating up burglars. Then it takes you to meet Jennifer, a single mom, and her darling son, as he asks (paraphrased) “How can Santa be accurate? It isn’t possible! But I do want to own!” Jennifer does her best to retort her sons questions, but struggles to accept the lawful answers, as she herself does not like Christmas.

Then you meet Morgan, a nomad. He usually spends his time sleeping on the floors at the airport until by chance, he meets the cop. The two become hastily friends and pull a con on one of the workers at the airport. The worker upgrades them to first class on the plane. When the friends approach in Chicago, Morgan heads off too board his next plane only to win that the airport in Denver, where he is headed, is closed down because of a snowstorm. So, reluctant to let a stranger into her home, Jennifer finally invites Morgan to stop with her, her uncle (the cop), and her son.

Filled with laughter, awkward moments, apologies, and crash ups, this movie is a extraordinary myth that teaches you to adore the exiguous things in life and to not let all the preperation for Christmas sustain you from enjoying the holiday’s season. The movie was a proper mosey jerker nearing the extinguish, so have your tissue box ready!

I really enjoyed this movie when I saw it on tv. I was a tiny dejected with the two unnecessary towel scenes but they were tastefully enough done that I could overlook it. I was thrilled to behold it was on dvd and bought a copy immediately. Sometimes it’s chilly when they add deleted scenes aid into the movie. Sometimes not. This DVD release had one of each instance. There’s an added car scene with Jen and Morgan after they win up the bike that was kind of sweet. The other added scene was of a definitely naked Jen getting into the shower. You don’t view anything except her bare encourage (extending very outrageous down her encourage) but unlike the towel scene where one could take for filming she was actually wearing a strapless bathing suit, the shower scene is quite a bit more revealing and really completely unnecessary. I know there are many who will deem I’m being humorous but had I known about the shower scene I would not have purchased this dvd. This review is more to warn people like me. The rest of you, I’m positive will delight in the movie and be pleased it was released so lickety-split onto DVD.

My premise here is that by the time all seven seasons of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” were released on DVD the sizable majority of fans who were inclined to do so had gone out and bought all seven sets. I am clear there are a few frugal fans who were waiting for something along the lines of “The Chosen Collection,” but they would be relatively aware (something akin to being a vampire with a soul) . Of course I had all of the episodes of “BtVS” (and “Angel”) on video tape (even made up my possess special boxes with shroud art and episode synopses on the serve) before I went out and bought all of the DVD sets, but I had occasion to seize “The Chosen Collection” as well.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Buffy The Vampire Slayer – Collector’s Set! Click Here

That is because my oldest daughter is away at college and she was not allowed to rob my “BtVS” DVD sets with her. I had purchased the first season for all three of my kids (two are away at college so it is not like they are all in one space) and was intending to eventually derive them the other six but “The Chosen Collection” is too obliging of a deal to pass up and not objective because of the heed. This one titanic red and white box takes up a lot less residence (a bit more than a third) . That is because when you begin it up inside you will come by wallet-like cases for each of the seven seasons. So it seemed an appropriate gift for someone turning 21 who writes about Buffy whenever possible in her college classes.

I have covered each of the seven season of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” elsewhere, so here I want to talk about the “Irregular, NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN EXTRAS” included on the 40th DVD in “The Chosen Collection” (Yes, the other 39 discs are the same produced for the individual series sets) :

“Assist to the Hellmouth: A Conversation with Creators and Cast” is a casual 54-minute conversation amidst candles and mature books with Whedon, Marti Noxon, Doug Petrie, Nicholas Brendon, Emma Caulfield, Danny Strong, David Fury, Jane Espenson, Charisma Carpenter, Drew Z. Greenberg. Topics covered include first Buffy moments (for Joss it all goes aid to a scene in Invisible Girl), accepted Buffy moment, and assorted late the scenes stories, all with choice inserts from episodes (e.g., Chop in a Speedo) and piano music. Noxon does a generous job of getting off topic to tantalizing things (e.g., Joss writing the musical during his down time), but the fact that writers talk more than actors is hardly surprising. This is the best extra, what with finding out how Fury got Giles fired ends up getting Allyson Hannigan married and all, plus how being a mid-season replacement allowed Whedon to form the first twelve episodes before their aired so that the WB was denied the opportunity to tinker with the expose. There is enough recent stuff here for those who do not assume up this dwelling to execute friends with someone who has to check this out at least once.

“Buffy Cast and Crew: Approved Episodes” is short and to the point, although the choices are basically made by those listed above with a few other additions. However, if you are waiting for Sarah Michelle Gellar to weigh in on any of these featurettes you will be totally disappointed. Hannigan only popped up once, which is not enough for me and I suspect many others as well, but cast members Amber Benson and Danny Strong both sigh well for the series and David Greenwalt shows up as a key talking head as well.

“Buffy: An Unlikely Role Model” begins with Joss Whedon’s explicit procedure of creating a role model and has the cast and crew talking about why it actually worked (personal actions are key) without getting into ivory tower explanations.

“Breaking Barriers: It’s Not a Chick Fight Thing” focuses on Buffy stunt double Sophia Crawford and Stunt Coordinator Jeff Pruitt and details how she got the gig (she had qualified kinetics according to Joss) and what they tried to do in terms of developing Buffy’s martial arts fighting style, with some of Crawford’s best fights (e.g., “Anne”) caught by unhurried the scenes cameras. So you really come by to eye familiar things in a unique diagram with this one.

“Fancy Bites: Relationships in the Buffyverse” looks at most of the major romantic entanglements as things went from metaphorical sex to the accurate thing for Buffy and her friends. Vampires are always rich in veiled sexuality and the demonstrate combined that with the imperative that teenagers need to be punished for sex (peer “Friday the 13th,” et al.) . There are a few insightful comments from a few actors and writers on this featurette.

“Imperfect Fiends” is a brief notice at not so worthy the individual Expansive Bads but rather at the philosophy on the note of turning teenage problems into tangible monsters. Nothing really recent here and it is so short it hardly seemed worth including and ends the bonus disc on a feeble effect.

But then I am hardly arguing that this one disc justifies picking up this situation if you already have the complete “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” because it does not. I do believe it is an ideal prove to finish family and friends from always want to borrow your sets, although I can also survey where you might resolve to consume this one for yourself and let the kiddies (or whoever) remove your venerable ones (I kept those but made determined I got to peer the bonus disc, twice, before she takes it abet to college) . Of course, now the next generation of fans are going to want the “The Angel Collection.”

The recent opinion for BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER came to creator Joss Whedon when he was thinking about classic terror films. He noticed that films constantly included clueless blonde victims who wandered into an alley at night and were fleet killed by whatever sinister putrid was lurking there. If the blonde wasn’t killed, she always needed a well-muscled male hero to do her. Whedon plan it would be far more involving if the blonde went into the alley, but wasn’t killed. Instead, she would soundly kick the despicable nasty’s [...]. Whedon wrote a film based around this idea. The clueless girl became a blonde, Southern Californian high schooler who also happened to be the one girl in all the world with the strength and skill to hunt and waste vampires. The plan was quirky enough to acquire picked up and a film was made. However, powerful meddling on the share of the director and the studio turned the film into a hoaky cheesefest that was nothing like Whedon’s novel vision. The film flopped at the box office and Whedon conception that was the demolish of the road for his quirky slight belief.

However, there was something about the movie that caught the attention of the president of the minute WB network. The network had so far only found success with the overly-sentimental family drama 7th HEAVEN and was more willing to seize a chance on something current than the four major networks were. Gail Berman called Whedon and asked that he revitalize and rework the conception for television. After seeing the unaired pilot he had made to shop around the concept to networks, she agreed to a 12 episode order. And with that, one of the greatest television shows ever created was born.

The TV version of BUFFY is very different from the film version. He kept some of the basic area elements of the film around as canon for the display (chief among, the fact that Buffy burned down the gym of her high school in Los Angeles) but has always stated that, for the sake of the reveal, the film does not exist. Instead, we seize up in the two-part pilot episode with Buffy Summers, played by the improbable Sarah Michelle Gellar, enthralling to Sunnydale, California with her mother. Her parents have divorced and Buffy has been kicked out of her high school because of the aforementioned fire. It is the middle of her sophomore year of high school and Buffy has already been called as the next Vampire Slayer in an passe line of female warriors blessed and cursed with all the skills required for hunting and killing vampires, and other demons. However, Buffy is so upset about the negative finish slaying has had on her life, that she decides to give it up.

It is only when she is confronted with the truths about her modern town that Buffy gets relieve into the game as a Slayer. Sunnydale rests on a “Hellmouth”- a literal gateway to other, nastier dimenstions, and for this reason it is a center of mystical energy which draws all sorts of gross beings to it. For this reason, there is a seemingly endless supply of demons and ghouls for Buffy to fight. However, she won’t be doing it along, because she lickety-split makes friends with a couple of outsiders (brainy Willow and snarky Xander) and meets her modern Watcher, Rupert Giles, who has the task of training and leading her in her duties as the Slayer. Also in the mix factual at the beginning are the acid-tongued and well-liked Cordelia and the mysterious Angel.

That’s fair the basic opening premise for BUFFY. It is a point to that, on the surface, is about a rag-tag group of outsiders who must band together to fight forces of disagreeable we can’t even imagine. However, the things that made BUFFY a legal delight are its sense of humor and its heart. The reveal has its fill sound, based around the intention that Joss Whedon writes, and “Buffyspeak” became instantly recognizable as a blend of snarky sarcasm, witty pop culture references and unexpected turns of phrase. The expose is colorful and swiftly, which allows the campier elements to be fun and not hoky and the darker elements to feel current. Along with comedy, this panic reveal also mixes in romance and drama leading to some truly poignant and heartbreaking moments between the richly drawn cast of characters. The series darkened as it progressed, with bigger evils to face and less and less hope for a “normal life” for our heroine Buffy, but it always remained a legend about friendship and family.

All seven seasons of this demonstrate are phenomenal. Each episode crackles with energy, knowing writing and cast chemistry and the mythology of the exhibit deepens and matures as BUFFY ages. Villains are allowed to be multi-faceted and three-dimensional (search for the sunshiny exterior of the shiny nefarious Mayor of season three and the zigzag romance between season two vampires Spike and Drusilla) . The main cast expands to include a extraordinary array of characters that include a laconic werewolf guitarist (played perfectly by Seth Green) and a straight-forward and hilarious ex-Vengeance Demon. However, the core four Scooby Gang members of Buffy, WIllow, Xander and Giles always remain the focus as they disappear through the perils of Sunnydale and proper life together. BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER is hilarious, eye-opening, genre-bending, heart-breaking, intellectual, romantic, fantastic television and if you’ve never seen it before you are in for a shapely treat. Whatever you’ve heard about this prove, in actuality it is worse and its better and it is truly one of the most incredible things to ever grace the television hide.

I am not one to usually write reviews on movies, and I can’t stand the people who try to analyze every miniature aspect of movies and write novels of their opinions instead of unprejudiced enjoying them for what they are – entertainment!! That being said, I saw this with my mom, and I conception we would plunge out of our chairs we were laughing so hard! I Appreciate comical movies, and VERY rarely do I behold one that makes me laugh this hard, so I honest had to write this since the critics were so terrible to this movie. Travolta, Allen, Lawrence and Macy are immense together, and I didn’t know that Ray Liotta (one of my faves!) was in the movie. This unbiased made it even better! The entire movie was salubrious – I can’t wait to acquire the DVD in August!

Wild Hogs is a typical midlife crisis movie. Four men, who have been friends for years and who suit up in leather and lunge to the local bar and grill regularly to hang out, suddenly wonder what happened to their lives. They all realize, one by one, that they’ve hit middle age and fallen into a rut, and they determine to rob a rotten country scamper on their bikes to rep out of it.

This is one of the more gripping movies I’ve seen in a while. What made it for me, however, was not the position or even the comedic moments but rather the beneficial performances by a immense cast. John Travolta plays the cool-guy-in-a-midlife-crisis role perfectly, and Tim Allen pulls off his when-did-my-life-get-so-bland share flawlessly as well. Throw in enormous performances by Martin Lawrence, a man desperate to bag out from under his overbearing wife’s thumb, and William H. Macy, a geek who hopes he can FINALLY do something that will effect him frigid, and you’ve got a broad group of main characters.

Macy’s performance is probably the most surprisingly valid of the bunch. He’s downright hilarious in this movie as the ‘rebel nerd.’ And Ray Liotta is obedient as the villain, the antagonist who tries to refuse this group of “Wild Hogs” their suitable to hotfoot on the grounds that they’re not steady bikers.

This is a very laughable movie and is definite to withhold you entertained. With a relatively unoriginal dwelling this may not have been a mammoth film if not for the marvelous cast, but these guys will have you cheering for the middle-aged suburbanite and longing for the initiate road yourself.

This movie is a beauty from inaugurate to do. It removes a lot of the fable points but how else can you earn a movie without it being 50-60 hours? Cramming three games into one movie seemed like a hard enough job. I’m only miffed a dinky cause Sakaki only seems like a nuisance and not a distress in the neck like he should be. The combat sequences are blooming but do not wearisome the valid legend unlike a spiky haired emo I know…

Haseo proves he’s not angst and rage, though they do seem to pick up the job done for him. Well, until [This section is censored for location relevance] and [see prior] and he proves [you earn the idea] etc.

I had expected, with it being condensed and all, Ovan would be more grunt. How despicable I was! He maintains his normal station, more so than the other characters.

An extraordinary movie with beautifully rendered fight scenes, heart grossing chronicle, and an unbelievable soundtrack this movie is a must glimpse. Though following the basics of the fable from the games worthy is shortened, left out, or brushed past to progress to the main points. This is a stout ending to the second season and it provides a helpful ending for the series. There is a third season being aired in Japan, which deals with the fallout from these episodes. Unfortunately, I’m not clear if it will acquire it to the U.S., since Geneon is no longer producing anime.

Great Anime! LOL! Gay they are going to season 3…waiting for them to reach out on DVD and hopefully in a box area like the first 2 seasons.

Movie Title: Cyborg
Average customer review:

Cyborg is available for streaming or downloading.

Click Here to Stream or Download Cyborg

I hope you will forgive me when I sing you I have a crushing headache as I write this review. Why? Because I devoted several hours of this sunny day thinking about not one, but two, of Albert Pyun’s films. Pondering the importance of “Ticker” and “Cyborg” to the cinematic world wore me out in ways I would not mediate possible. Pyun, if you are not familiar with his oeuvre, constructed his B movie credentials by releasing such classics as “The Sword and The Sorcerer,” “Nemesis,” “Mean Guns,” and “Postmortem.” He’s a hack’s hack in the hack world of zero budget schlock. Not to pound you over the head with it, but watching a Pyun film often resembles in no itsy-bitsy draw craning your head out the window to ogle that car accident on the freeway. Initially, you are intrigued by what you might contemplate only to realize later how gross you feel as a human being for looking at scenes of abject fear. Ok, I am exaggerating slightly. “Cyborg,” the 1989 film that launched the dubious career of Jean-Claude Van Damme, is one of Pyun’s better efforts. In fact, it is one of the few movies in his canon I can witness on a regular basis and not feel too badly about it the next day.

Here’s another film dealing with life in a post-apocalyptic world. Gibson Rickenbacker (Van Damme) arises from the ruins to play the fraction of a Agreeable Samaritan. He tries to attend survivors of a plague wing from the ruined cities to the countryside, hopefully so they can reconstruct some semblance of a normal life. Rickenbacker, as the hero, of course has an abominable memory of one of his missions. He tried to assign a family and ended up falling in like with a woman. You don’t need me to spell out what happened next. Ever since this poor incident, Gibson struggles with what he should do next. When he runs into a woman named Pearl Prophet (Dale Haddon), a cyborg attempting to carry a cure for the plague relieve to the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, he must resolve whether to resume the role of hero. Why not recall fraction in helping Pearl carry the antidote? This mission could turn Rickenbacker into the savior of the world. Unfortunately for Rickenbacker and Pearl, Fender Tremolo (Vincent Klyn), a scary looking dude with peculiar eyes and a mechanical sing, and his gang of like-minded cyborgs have their acquire ideas. They contemplate if they can occupy Pearl and find her to Atlanta, they will control the future of the world.

When Prophet falls into the hands of Tremolo’s gang, Rickenbacker decides to fetch her assist. With the befriend of a mouthy young lady he picks up along the plan named Nady Simmons (Deborah Richter), Gibson lurches from one violent confrontation to another. Thugs drop to the ground like leaves as the two pursue Tremolo with malevolent intent. Numerous showdowns in burnt out and broken down buildings provide Pyun and Van Damme with plenty of opportunities to showcase martial arts madness. Kicks, punches, and blunt and arresting instruments-anything you can contemplate of that will cause wound to a human or cyborg body finds a consume in this movie. And for the most section Pyun carries off the action well, great better than he has in many of his other movies. You are surprised that you actually root for this guy who speaks English like he objective walked off a boat. Before feelings of giddiness carry you away, however, you need to reconcile yourself with a few of the cheesy aspects of the movie. Nearly all of the characters are named after musical instruments, the outfits ogle like the film crew robbed a Modern Wave band’s wardrobe closet, and the dialogue tends towards the insipid. Unruffled, “Cyborg” entertains as few Pyun films do.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Cyborg! Click Here

“Cyborg” works largely due to the gritty, blasted urban background that the characters go through. It is here, in the ruins of civilization, where most of the action takes dwelling. Moreover, the characterize quality of the film (probably as a result of dreadful film stock) has a dirty gaze to it, which actually gives the movie a better, more realistic atmosphere. I even notion Pyun tried to inject a philosophical statement in the film (yeah, apt) when we recognize Rickenbacker staked to that ship’s mast. Is Gibson a Christ figure “rising” from the grave to assist place the world? Maybe, but I’m probably reading more into “Cyborg” than the director intended. Obvious, the acting could be better-lots better-and the fight scenes are a runt over the top, but why else would you inspect this movie? You don’t demand Oscar performances and you don’t salvage them. What you do come by is an provocative intention to employ eighty plus minutes (the movie doesn’t accelerate for even an hour and a half) .

The DVD version is strictly bare bones. If memory serves me correctly, the only extra on this disc was a trailer. Too awful, but a bit surprising considering this is officially a cult classic. It’s intriguing to mark that none other than Cannon, the company that released TONS of extreme budget action flicks in the 1980s, helped fund this distress. Charles Bronson benefited from Cannon’s attentions benefit then, so why not Van Damme? I recommend “Cyborg” not only to fans of action films, but even to fans of science fiction since the movie takes a stab at incorporating both elements under one umbrella. Is it sparkling cinema? Nope, but who says it needs to be?

Restore it? Why?!

this movie rocks!.. it has some AWESOME fight scenes, really well done. They may not be overly skillful (i don’t even contemplate Van Damme is an overly skillful martial artist unlike Jet Li, Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee) But he has the ability to manufacture his fight scenes fair “spy” so damn cold!

There are so many “frosty” moments in this film

eg.

-Van Damme does the splits between 2 walls and waits for one of the pirates to streak under him, before killing him with his kickass knife

-Van Damme and one of the pirates examine each other off from a distance in a factory.. then hasten chunky pelt at each other screaming, then retract in an awesome knife fight (icy exhaust of slow-mo too)

-the first appearance of Van Damme in the film is basically unbiased a shot of his leg out of nowhere executing an awesome roundhouse kick to the face of the dreadful guys (soo icy)

and so many more quality scenes

My son has four Backyardigans videos, the Mission to Mars DVD, and two CD’s. We honest bought The Record of the Volcano Sisters a few weeks ago, and, needless to say, this HAS to be one of his favorites!

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Backyardigans – The Legend of the Volcano Sisters! Click Here

He has played this DVD over and over again–often singing the songs to himself even when the DVD is off! Speaking of songs, if you savor the catchy, clever songs spanning oodles of music styles in this DVD, you’ll cherish both of the Backyardigans CDs. The newest one is Groove to the Music, but it only features one song found on The Fable of the Volcano Sisters DVD: Track 15 “We’ll Accept You What You Want” featured in the episode of the same name.

Here is a brief synopsis of all four episodes as found on the assist of the case:

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Backyardigans – The Legend of the Volcano Sisters! Click Here

* The Record of the Volcano Sisters – The tarantella plays as legendary Luau Brothers Pablo, Tyrone, and Austin try to appease Volcano Sisters Tasha and Uniqua so their volcano doesn’t erupt and raze the gigantic luau! (If you have a exiguous princess in the family–on even “The Queen”!–you’ll earn a chuckle out of this episode, where the gals never say what they want…but demand the guys to guess!)

* The Swamp Creature – Sixties guitar music rocks the boat as Tour Guides Uniqua and Pablo lure in customers Tasha and Austin with promises of the Swamp Creature. Petite do they know, Swamp Creature Tyrone actually exists! (In this laughable episode, Uniqua and Pablo try to shyster customers into believing that there’s a Swamp Monster–are are surprised to gather there actually IS one in the swamp!)

* Horsing Around – Giddy-up to Klezmer music as Cowgirl Uniqua and Jockey Pablo speed to bag out who’s the best horse rider in the west. You won’t gain the winner… (Very cute–with a surprise winner!)

* Special Delivery – The Do-Gooders, a tough but generous biker gang, rev up to Norteno music to bring a missing mailbag–and their Valentine’s Day cards–to nervous Mailman Tyrone!

Because of the last episode, this makes a particularly first-rate DVD for a Valentine’s Day gift–but it can be enjoyed anytime!

There aren’t many special features, unfortunately–only a Wonder Pets! sneak peer and a Secret Agent dance along. They don’t even include a full-size poster like the one included in the Mission to Mars DVD.

Still, you can’t beat this 99 limited DVD when it comes to cleverness, musical variety, gleaming characters, and ample storytelling!

The Backyardigans are assist with more inviting adventures from Season Two of their television series, and as usual there are four wildly imaginative episodes, each with four catchy songs dwelling to the beat of a special music genre.

This DVD contains the following episodes:

The Story of the Volcano Sisters – The Volcano Sisters (Uniqua and Tasha) question a gift from the Luau Brothers (Tyrone, Pablo and Austin), failing which they will literally blow their top, thereby ruining the Brothers’ party. The Brothers expend their strength, rush and wisdom to do definite the Sisters gather exactly what they want.

(Music genre: Tarantella)

The Swamp Creature – Uniqua and Pablo are tour guides in an icky, smelly swamp, and convince tourists Austin and Tasha to pick the tour, under the pretext of showing them the swamp monster. Unbeknownst to the sneaky entrepreneurs, there really is a swamp monster, who eventually manages to track them down.

(Music genre: Sixties guitar)

Horsing Around – A enormous accelerate is on between a cowgirl (Uniqua) and a jockey (Pablo) to accumulate the fastest horse rider in the west. Austin announces the speed, which also includes a most unlikely racer (Tyrone) on a most unlikely steed named Molasses.

(Music genre: Klezmer)

Special Delivery – A tough group of bikers (Tasha, Uniqua and Pablo) known as the Do-Gooders, approach into contact with a nervous mailman (Tyrone) who thinks that they’re after the mail. The stakes are high, as there are Valentine’s Day cards that need delivering.

(Music genre: Norteno)

The best episode is “The Myth of the Volcano Sisters”, and there are also some fun special features, including a dance-along number.

Fans should mark that the next DVD “Movers and Shakers” is due out in May 2007.

This package, as others have mentioned, appears to be a mixed bag of musicals not yet on DVD. The proper news is that some of the Eleanor Powell films I’ve been waiting for are among them – Broadway Melodies of 1936 and 1938, Born To Dance, and Lady Be Gracious. I’m less crazy about the 1950’s era musicals in this package. Personally I’d say that the Broadway Melodies and Born to Dance are 5/5, Lady Be Pleasant is 4/5, and the 1950’s era films are between 3 and 4 out of 5. It’s not that I don’t like Jane Powell, the star of many of the later entries, it’s impartial that the stories in some of these films seems to be more of a hindrance than a encourage. Nobody else has listed the extra features, which are well-known when judging a package like this. So I have included those next, along with the rating for each film as given by a current Internet film database:

This is a rather curious combination of MGM musicals, possible the result of the scraping together some of the titles which had not yet appeared on DVD. They are certainly a variable lot falling into 3 subgroups – 4 with Eleanor Powell, 2 starring Jane Powell and 3 second rate titles from the fifties.

In the mid thirties, Eleanor Powell became the dancing queen of MGM with her spectacular tap. She only made at most 2 films per annum and each had great, advantageous supporting casts and mammoth songs to showcase her. If you have not seen Powell’s dancing, you are in for a treat. The production numbers have a glitter and excitement with the shining dim and white photography and dynamic orchestrations.

- “Broadway Melody of 1936″, released in 1935, was Powell’s first MGM film and it is masterfully made to disguise her limitations as an actress. The film has a big gain including “Broadway Rhythm” and “You are my Lucky Star”, both appearing later in “Singing in the Rain”. With Frances Langford to belt out the songs, Robert Taylor as an impossibly magnificent leading man and Buddy Ebsen and Una Merkel providing solid assist, the film was a colossal success and spawned a series of films with “Broadway Melody” in the title.

- The next in the series, released in 1936, was “Born to Dance”, using the familiar spot of 3 sailors and their girls. Ebsen, Langford and Una Merkel were help with Taylor replaced by James Stewart who introduces the classic Col Porter “Easy to Savor” in an uneasy vocal. The other mountainous song is “I’ve got you under my Skin” presented by Virginia Bruce.

- For 1937, the “Broadway Melody” title returned with Robert Taylor and the addition of Sophie Tucker and a very young Judy Garland. This is the film in which Garland sang “Dear Mr Gable”, a version of “You made me Esteem You”. It is inviting to examine Garland and Tucker together but the region in this one becomes dead.

- In “Lady be Apt”, released in 1941, Powell had been demoted from the lead. She supports Ann Sothern and Robert Young in a really stupid and overlong legend of a song writing team. Busby Berkeley staged the finale, George Gershwin’s “Appealing Rhythmn”, with Powell in gargantuan manufacture. The other highlight is the touching “The Last Time I saw Paris”, poignantly delivered by Ann Sothern and the winner of the Oscar for best song that year. It is ironical that Powell was relegated to the second lead here because she is powerful more relaxed and splendid than in the earlier films.

In the slow forties, Joe Pasternak produced a series of light “family” musical comedies starring Jane Powell. These films date badly although the two titles here are probably the best in the series. The films are well made in beautiful technicolour and Jane Powell’s work always improved.

- the title, “Nancy goes to Rio”, says it all. Ugh! This is a film in the mould of Gidget and is fairly nauseating, to say the least. It certainly benefits from the presence of Ann Sothern as Powell’s mother and there are a few friendly songs, but otherwise, the cringe meter will salvage high. Carmen Miranda is on hand too but by this time, she had become a parody. Her musical numbers are OK but the sexy insinuation in her best Fox films is replaced by MGM family values and that kills Miranda stone unimaginative!

- “Two weeks with Fancy” is a better film. It has an silly screenplay, an kindly supporting cast and Powell is quite silly although Debbie Reynolds, with a naturalness that was soon to proceed, steals the film as her younger sister. Her duet with Carleton Carpenter of “Aba daba Honeymoon” is distinguished.

The last 3 films are a loyal mixed bag. MGM continued to originate the grandest musicals of all the studios but by the mid fifties, the films were becoming increasingly heavy handed.

- “Deep in my Heart” is an all star biopic of Sigmund Romberg with a charmless Jose Ferrer showcased in the title role and a expressionless screenplay. The biographic film allowed guest appearances by the studio roster and Ann Miller steals the present, closely followed by Gene Kelly, dancing with his brother.

- “Hit the Deck” is another version of the cliched myth about sailors on shore leave and the musicals numbers, often dynamic, assign the viewer from complete boredom, the best being “Hallelujah”. The cast are competent and energetic but generally second rate when compared to “On the Town” to which it has many similarities.

- “Kismet” is a technicolour Arabian Nights chronicle which was a big Broadway hit but is another listless and overproduced dinosaur. Howard Keel was always estimable and how he managed to sustain a straight face with some of the material he was handed is a credit to him. Dolores Gray jumps off the cover but Ann Blyth and the others are dreadful. Films such as these killed the musical genre stone dreary.

The Residence contains the usual assortment of outtakes (some gracious, some dreadful), cartoons, trailers etc. The best extra is the interview with a charming Jane Powell and it is huge to eye an ex-movie star who both looks splendid and has joyful memories. The prints of the films are generally pleasant.

So there you have it. If you like musicals, you may like all these titles. Personally, I would take a disk which objective contained the musical numbers. Incidentally, that’s the cast of “Lady be Superior” displayed on Amazon.
